We have been playing with Twitter in house for a couple of days. I had personally been avoiding Twitter, but I do know quite a few people on it from class including profs. On a personal level I still don't see my need to Twitter as high. However, in a recent article it's made me understand the value to academia from an instructor perspective. I probably would use it more if I had a phone with a keyboard. I am not that fast at texting, but I have a 13 year old who keeps me active with it. A new phone is on my to do lists.

I too found it hard to get used to. I have not done much of it but I will keep at it.
Here is an interesting NYT article about mobile social networks and why some people think the USA is myopic on the topic... i'm a poet and didnt know it!
Here's a nice example of the usefulness of Twitter. Today, Apple is announcing the details of the iPhone SDK. MacRumors is providing live coverage of the event.
But what if you don't want to just sit there refreshing their page? What if you're not going to be in front of a computer?
Because MacRumors is microblogging the event on Twitter, you can follow the MacRumors Twitter feed and follow the action, either online with an app like Twitterific, or by having updates SMS'ed to your cell phone.
